Forged Red U-Bolt® Clips for Dependable Wire Rope Terminations

The Crosby G-450 Red U-Bolt® Wire Rope Clip is designed for forming wire rope loop and thimble-eye terminations in lifting, rigging and industrial applications. Its precision-formed saddle provides a broad rope-bearing surface, while the recognizable red U-bolt helps identify genuine Crosby wire rope clips in the field.

G-450 clips feature galvanized construction for resistance to corrosion and rust. Each base is marked with the Crosby name or “CG,” the applicable size and a Product Identification Code for material traceability. Sizes through 1-1/2 inches feature rolled U-bolt threads, and every clip is individually bagged or tagged with the appropriate application and warning instructions.

Applications

Crosby G-450 wire rope clips are commonly used to form turnback loop and thimble-eye terminations for construction, utilities, marine work, mining, material handling and general industrial rigging. Proper performance depends on matching the clip to the wire rope size, installing the required number of clips, maintaining the specified turnback and tightening the nuts evenly to Crosby’s recommended torque.

Important: The listed clip quantities and turnback lengths are minimum requirements for the corresponding wire rope sizes and specified rope constructions. Add one additional clip when a pulley or sheave is used to turn back the wire rope. If more clips are used than listed, increase the turnback length proportionately. Torque values are based on clean, dry threads that are free of lubrication. Always match the clip size to the wire rope size, place the U-bolt over the dead end and the saddle on the live end, and tighten the nuts evenly to the specified torque. Apply an initial test load, then check and retighten the nuts with a torque wrench. Do not use G-450 clips with plastic-coated wire rope. The 2-3/4-inch and 3-1/2-inch sizes use cast-steel bases rather than forged bases.
