Product Description

The Petzl Basic RAD Kit (Rapid Ascent & Descent) is a compact and efficient rope access system designed to help you ascend and descend with ease. Popular among tree climbers, sailors, and technical rescue professionals, this setup provides mechanical advantage for climbing and a smooth, controlled descent when you’re ready to come down. Simply remove the ascending gear and deploy the included GRIGRI device for a seamless transition from ascent to descent.

This system is compact, lightweight, and versatile—perfect for situations where mobility and speed are critical. Whether you’re climbing a tree, accessing a sailboat mast, or handling rope work in another vertical environment, the RAD system helps get the job done efficiently. There are multiple instructional videos online demonstrating similar setups, but hands-on training is always essential.

What’s Included:

  • Petzl ASCENSION – Ergonomic handled rope clamp for efficient rope ascents. Comfortable grip for use with one or two hands.
  • Petzl FOOTAPE – Adjustable webbing foot loop for use with the ASCENSION or other compatible rope clamps.
  • Petzl GO Quick Link – 7mm steel quick link with a 16mm gate opening. Rated to 25 kN breaking strength.
  • Petzl FIXE Pulley – Compact, versatile pulley for smooth rope handling during ascent.
  • Petzl GRIGRI Descender – Assisted-braking belay device for smooth, controlled descents.
  • (2) Petzl Am’D Carabiners – Aluminum D-shaped carabiners ideal for connecting pulleys, descenders, or lanyards.

Note: This kit includes hardware only—saddle, climbing rope, and throw weights are not included, but can be added separately to build a complete SRT rope climbing system. As with all professional climbing gear, this system should not be used without proper training and adherence to all relevant safety standards.
